Dr. Rusty Bergman

The Enabler

White Coat of North Kansas City Hospital

“He saw the shadows on the scan. And chose the comfort of silence.”

🧾 Role Summary

Dr. Rusty Bergman left fingerprints on all three of Nicole’s hospitalizations, weaving a thread of strategic omission through each one. While his direct contact may have varied, his influence was constant — and his decisions (or lack thereof) helped shape the institutional narrative that nearly killed her.

He ordered the September 10, 2019 MRCP, which showed a 19.8 cm enlarged liver, an adrenal adenoma, and a bile duct stricture that likely reflected a botched stent placement from her ERCP one week prior. He referenced the imaging in his notes. He cited it. But he never disclosed those findings to Nicole.

He wasn’t alone in that — multiple physicians pulled the same move. But Bergman was there early, middle, and late. He helped normalize the gaslighting through repetition. His silence was the echo that made it seem like no one else needed to speak.

And if he didn’t see it? Then why document the scan at all?
If he did see it — and his documented words state he did — then this wasn’t oversight.
It was complicity by curation. A physician hand-picking which truths the patient deserved to hear.

📉 Timeline of Failures

  • September 10, 2019: Orders then cites MRCP imaging that shows an adrenal mass, liver enlargement, and bile duct stricture. None of these findings however are disclosed in his documentation or discussed with Nicole.

  • Fall 2019: Participates in the reinforcement of benign interpretations, focusing on the idea that her bile duct “looks okay,” despite radiological evidence to the contrary.

  • November–December 2019: Remains part of the treatment apparatus as Nicole deteriorates into hepatic encephalopathy, stuttering, and collapse — yet makes no recorded effort to revisit or escalate the imaging findings.

💬 Commentary

“He was the echo chamber in a system allergic to truth.”

Dr. Bergman didn't lead the charge.
He stood just far enough back to feign distance, while offering the cover needed to push forward.

He didn’t shout her down. He didn’t contradict the records.
He just quietly chose not to care.
